Lord Shiva’s own character is having many contradictions as the meaning of Shiva is auspicious and healer and because of this Lord Shiva is also known as symbol of reliance. Whereas the personality of Lord Shiva does not confluence with his above character because he rubs ashes (Bhasm) in his body instead of perfume and also wear snakes in his neck in place of garland.
Lord Shiva is the only God, whose Shiva Linga is worshiped by the devotees and it is said in myths that offering of milk on Shiva linga has special importance in Shravana Month. Therefore devotees of Lord Shiva offer gushing milk on Shiva Linga in the month of Shravana to please Lord Shiva. In the Mythological sacred epics, it is described that sins are withered when devotees offer gushing milk on Shiva Linga in the month of Shravana
But offering milk on Shiva linga in the month of Shravana has also has the scientific importance apart from religious. Hence we should not drink milk as well as the same should also not use in the preparation of food from milk in the month of Shravana. Since Lord Shiva as per myths, is the only God who can drink poison (Consume Halahal) for the bliss (welfare) of his devotees, tradition of offering milk on the Linga of Lord Shiva in the month of Shravana is made. It is because that Cow/buffalo also eat such many insect along with grass which makes milk very harmful then effectual for the health of the human being and therefore ritually tradition of offering milk on the Linga of Lord Shiva is made then to consume by the humans.
As per Ayurveda, disease attack humans for disorder of air, gas and cough. But it is seen that humans are attacked maximum by the disease of musculoskeletal disorder in the month of Shravana because of change in the climate in this month.
To reduce the effect of this musculoskeletal disorder disease we should not eat the leaf type vegetables. Cow and buffalo also eat grass and leaf type vegetables which pollute their milk hence avoid drinking to safeguard their health from the attack of musculoskeletal disorder in the month of Shravan.
Therefore when milk is offered on Shiva Linga in the month of Shravana peoples got to understand that drinking milk is like poison and stop drinking milk to protect their health from the disease of musculoskeletal disorder and also prevent the rainy season diseases from viral infection.
There are so many vegetables are grown and available for eating during rainy season but we were eating those vegetables only after offering these on the Lord Krishna during Annakuta festival i.e. after Deepawali when rainy season is over.
As per Allopathic, carrot contains Vitamin “A” which contains iron and is healthy eat and good for health but as per Ayurveda carrot should not be eaten after Shiv Ratri because carrot increases irritability in our body (Pitta) in the rainy season.
